Guatemala

A 13-member team from Montgomery UMC returned
to Guatemala this past summer. Partnering with local
pastors and our trusted contacts, the team was able
to visit many of the sites visited before to see what
has been happening and build on relationships. They
ministered to many children who flocked to their
VBS presentations held in the villages.

Mission & Outreach
The Montgomery United Methodist Church helps to support diverse and dynamic ministries within our community, state, nation and in many parts of the world.

Close to home, we have partnered with:
• Youth For Christ in both Frederick and Montgomery Counties, YFC engages with Middle and High School
youth in addressing the problems and concerns facing today’s teens.

• Frederick Rescue Mission - This mission works with homeless men and men in transition to provide
Christian compassion and direction in a confusing world.

• Good News Jail and Prison Ministry - In Clarksburg, Maryland, this ministry provides guidance and
encouragement to detention center residents returning to our community.

• Hope Alive - A safe and nuturing home environment for homeless women and children of Frederick
County, Hope Alive offers a four-phase program and comprehensive support services to address the issues
at the root of each family's homelessness.

• Faith Connections, Inc. (formerly DELAI) - With the help of a part-time communy social worker and
partnering with Damascus HELP, area churches, organizations and individuals, DELAI is providing
assistance to area families facing homelessness by helping to prevent evictions and foreclosures. DELAI
also provides mentoring and life skills training to single mothers and after school programs for at-risk youth
in the community.

• Damascus HELP provides emergency food, through the Food Closet, assistance with utility bills, help
with prescriptions, transportation to doctors’ offices, and other essential services to area families in crisis.

Reaching further, the Missions Ministry has committed to helping national organizations:
• Intervarsity Christian Fellowship - Found on many college campuses, ICF provides an alternative for
students looking for acceptance and trying to “fit in” to the cultures and environs around them.

• Chinese Outreach Ministries - Extending a welcoming hand to Mainland Chinese Grad Students at
numerous universities, COM assists these students in everyday living situations such as: finding and
applying for apartments, furniture, shopping, transportation and finding supportive, Christian fellowship
groups.

In the world perspective, we help support missions in:
• Eastern Europe | Paul Hanak with Ambassadors for Christ helps to oversee, train and encourage pastors
of churches emerging from under the grip of Communism.

• Myanmar (Burma) | Jimmy Hla with Ambassadors for Christ travels through the jungle to remote villages
bringing Christ’s Good News in native tongue and customs.

• Peru | Ken and Cathie Metz - Partnering with local churches, Ken and Cathie are helping towns and
villages gripped by drug and violent cultures transform into healthy and productive societies.

• Zambia, Africa | Sons of Thunder - Having established a thriving, working farm, an orphanage, a school,
and recently an AIDS clinic, God’s word is boldly proclaimed in churches and homes throughout the area.

• NOAH Ministries | Mike and Linda Jones with their daughter Sheri are committed to bring healing and
hope, through Christ, to the people and land of war-torn Congo.
